
Heat Waves: A Direct Consequence of Corporate Emissions?
A groundbreaking study published in Nature has established a direct correlation between the increase of extreme heat waves and the emissions caused by the world’s largest fossil fuel producers. Researchers from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) refer to this as "new and direct scientific evidence of the responsibility of individual companies." According to the study, climate change made heat waves between 2010 and 2019 up to 200 times more likely. Just 180 companies account for around 60% of all cumulative CO2 emissions since 1850. Notably, the top 14 corporations, such as ExxonMobil, Gazprom, and Saudi Aramco, have been linked to over fifty instances of heat waves that would have otherwise been improbable without human-induced warming.
